The answer is likely logistics, but why are we dumping milk because there is no ‘demand’ , yet milk companies are matching donations on sites like this?

I can get behind this. Do you have any suggestions on how to make sure the farmers who need help the most get it? I think corporate farmers can fuck off from my goodwill .

The main issue is a massive shift in demand from food service to groceries, plus lower overall demand. Many dairy processors are not set up to produce stuff that typically ends up on grocery store shelves and instead make stuff like giant 5 lb cheese wheels or 2 gallon tubs of sour cream, which goes to restaurants & other food service customers like schools, event venues, hotels, etc . Those processors & distributors’ demand is way down, but even with temporarily relaxed FDA labeling requirements it’s a big challenge for them to switch over to supplying grocers. So they’re not buying as much milk from f armers as they used to and the farmers are stuck with too much supply.

My wife once set up a milk donation network in our AO. But she’s a hippy and it was from human tits. Always fun to open up your freezer to see a bunch of breast milk. That’s what I get for marrying a punk rock girl.
